How do I know if my insurance claim was short-settled?

There are several indicators that your claim may have been short-settled. If the amount you received is lower than your total bill or loss and the insurer has applied deductions that were not clearly explained in your policy document, that is a red flag. Common signs include large depreciation deductions on parts or assets, a co-payment amount you were not informed about at the time of purchase, a room rent or treatment sub-limit that significantly reduced your health claim, or a surveyor’s valuation that seems far below the actual cost of the loss. If any of this sounds familiar, it is worth getting your settlement reviewed before accepting it as final.

Can I challenge a short settlement after I have already received the payment?

In most cases, yes, provided you have not signed the discharge voucher. Once you sign the discharge voucher, you are formally accepting the settlement as full and final, which makes a challenge significantly harder. However, if you signed under duress, without fully understanding the document, or if the insurer withheld material information, a challenge may still be possible.
